Sunshine Faces

You came back

As promised

My heart filling

With delight

At the sightsight of you

What a sweet surprise

To gaze up at your magnificence

And see your radiant bulbous face

Staring back at me

This is going to be

A most wonderful summer

Of sunshine and splendo
While watering my sunflowers’glorious towering stocks I found this beauty peeking from the back row clamoring for my attention. What a surprise and a sweet reminder of my journey with them last year. It was my way of dealing with my dad’s death and feeling him close to me. It was also a most wonderful way to “live poetry” by watching their cycle and comparing it to my own

I live poetry challenge for you:  Watch a life cycle of something from beginning to end. It doesn’t have to be flowers or even plants..maybe butterflies or turtled or kids. Record it by drawing or writing or pictures.  It is the act of recording in some way and comparing and contrasting it to your own that keeps you present and observant…looking at things in a new way.

Hop Up on Your Unicorn & Ride on Out of There!

I had a terrible nightmare about snakes.  They were writhing in and out of my space. Honestly, they weren’t very big at all. But their presence in MY space was unwelcomed and evil, especially since it was dark, and one of them was poised ready to strike.

Honestly, I don’t remember much else about the dream except that my husband had to shake me awake.  When i told him what my dream was about, he said, “Well, hop up on your unicorn and ride on out of there!”   Suddenly, I couldn’t think of anything else except the unicorn, which was a grand thing because no longer was this evil presence able to hold on to me, and I was able to get back to sleep much easier.

Then, as I contemplated my day yesterday, and a few things got tougher than usual,  i thought back to the unicorn scenario.  What if I took this approach to difficult situations?  I know life comes in cycles, highs and lows, and  there will be snakes in my life.  What if I redirect my thinking, reframe the situation, and think of something different which is not as scary, or creepy, or tough?

Moral of the story:  When life gets tough,..hop up on your unicorn and ride on out of there!

ENJOY your day!

Take Time COLLABORATION – Happy New Year!

Happy New year beautiful people!

happy new year 2016

Well my friends, it is a New Year, and what a great way to begin our year with a collaboration.    For this one, we are using the anaphora –

                                                     Take Time

What I love about this open ended topic is that we can write endlessly from any point of our lives.  I can write a stream of consciousness without stopping.   No rules!       Add your lines in the comments, and I will put them together to make a group poem.  No deadline…write what makes your heart sing.   What ambitions, hopes, dreams, goals do you have for this bright beautiful year?   Will you make more memories with your loved ones?  savor time?   Take some chances or risks?

I CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR!!!

Here’s one of my contributions:

TAKE TIME

to be of the earth,

let it nourish you

soak its sweetness in your bones

Take time

To be of the water

Let it drop on your tongue

And quench your insatiable thirst

Take time

To gather around the fire

Let family and friends

Warm your heart and soul

Take time

to fill your lungs

breathe in mindfulness

Let out peace

Take time

To just be…

Namaste my friends,

and have a peaceful, joyous New Year.

Marie

Dark Days

Dark short days, and Christmas in the air

Blankets of snow…on the ground, and in my hair

Mark the season I hold so dear

Full of family, lights and lovely songs to hear

Yanking me from the depths of despair

Take heart, take flight

Immerse myself in delight

No longer to remain with

Dark short days

I say to you: do the same

Embrace your heart; feel the flame

No longer dwell on what cannot be

Think only instead on what we can see

Think only of the light that came

On dark short days.

This is my first attempt at a Rondeau poem.  My friend Michael at Poetry Channel gave me some ideas to “befriend” my muse.   Really it was fun to write!   Sometimes when you get stuck, you have to try something new and formulaic.   Enjoy!

CHRISTMAS is coming!

Namaste,  Marie

An Unlikely Love

I remember the first day I met you…
I didn’t like your kind.
You were sweet.
I was cautious.
Didn’t want to love you or even like you.
But you had your charm… your way of working into a heart with subtlety.

And here I am…
grateful for your patience your confidence
that I would fall in love with you…
I did.
Fifteen years later after finding you on the playground, I not only managed to love you,
but I learned to love your kind…
cats.
My dearest Recess…
you have given me hope for the world.

And I will continue in my
search for the gold.

Summer Beauty

purple daisy cropped

Spiky bulbous heads

show off their summer beauty

Soak the sun all in.

These flowers are the perfect examples of how we change with time and perspective.  I used to think these flowers were the ugliest in my garden.  Maybe it was because they weren’t the intense color of purple that I love…maybe because they look a little weedy on the bottom.  But when I focus my camera lens differently and I look at the flower from different angles, and I really begin to notice…THERE….I find beauty.   If you blow the picture up on your screen, you can see the cool TEXTURE of the middle.  How many flowers have spiky middles and flourish on the outside?  And they grow tall and elegant and stand far above the rest of the crowd.

If I apply this to life, what else would I see if I changed my camera lens and focused on something different?

Glorious, radiant beauty…and gold in every soul.

Happy Sunday my friends,

What I’ve Learned – How simple it is to CHOOSE JOY

joy

On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in our first grade community circle, we choose one positive word for the day to be all day.  I do this because it used to be what we did in January as our New Year resolution. It was a simple thing for first graders to remember, one word versus a phrase.   Frankly, it’s easy for all of us to remember one word.   We do an art project with it wherein we tear little scrap papers and make rainbow letters on a 3×5 card.   Then, we hang it in our cubbies.   Like anything that remains in one place, sometimes it’s forgotten.

So last year, I implemented positive words for Tuesday because they were easy to remember how to be that word all day long.  Sometimes we write them on our desk.  Then Wednesday, we would have our Plus one day.  We would be our word for Tuesday and then another positive word for Wednesday.  (It’s always nice to have a goal to look forward to.)

What I learned, just holding the word “Joy” in my head all day, changes my thinking.  When I change my thinking, I change my energy level.  Holding this positive energy level allows those things that might otherwise change my day to roll off my back and not exist or change form.  I’m happier….the kids are happier.

We have a phrase posted in our room that says, “Be kind in all you say and do and acts of kindness follow you.”   And now we interchange that word.  Be respectful in all you say and do and acts of respect follow you.     Be JOY-FULL in all you say and do and acts of JOY follow you.

Try it out!   You will be surprised at the acts of joy that follow you.

Merry Christmas my dear friends or happiness and joy in whatever holiday season you may be celebrating, even if it’s the holiday of you.

Namaste,  Marie  :0)
