My Lovelies
Sunflowers and Daisies

By Marie Lukasik Wallace

Heart centered lovelies
Lovely arms flung open wide
Open to give to their tippy tips
Open to receive deeply
Being and flinging
Joy

Ahhh…we have so much to learn from these lovelies.

Poets for Peace – The Wonder of It All

We have a Poets for Peace project going, and this poem is from a friend of mine, Gloria Escobedo Delgado.  Enjoy.

The wonder of it all

Upon arrival we walk to our favorite spot
As we have done so many times before
The sun with all its glory soon fades away
In its place black clouds come creeping in.
As if on a mission they’ve blown in overhead quietly and unnoticed
Instantly the sky is covered in night
In the distance shadows and sprinkles of twinkling lights
Stars, above all around then one by itself strong and bright
Some in formation as if at attention
Others – hundreds, the likeness of many loose diamonds
Delicately shimmering so very distant – lifetimes away

Before me is water as far as the eye can see
An ocean so vast so big so proud with its mighty waves
The water seems to go on forever

until into the bottom of the sky it respectfully tucks in its skirts

Choppy waves clap and flap then away they rush again
It is a windy night
The smell of salt water in the air
Out goes the shrimp clinging tightly to the hook
Destined for the perfect catch
Hello Mr. Sand trout
A golden beauty up late!
The seagull flutters by laughing dipping but not finding
He wont give up though
He knows all too well that soon he’ll get his.
Upon a happenstance I look up

What is it moving so quickly barely catching my eye
Oh wow a shooting star!
Look, darling! A shooting star!
O wait- its gone
how quickly it vanished almost as a vapor.
Then I ponder on all this beauty.
And think of the whole world of beautiful places I’ve yet to see
Alas many lifetimes could not suffice!
Looking around busied bodies about their business
Can it be true no one stops to take in the beauty
Then I wonder if per chance a person might say
That all these elements just happened per chance
Burning embers landing somewhere through flight?
In no way could one thus say!
Wait!!! Look up, look around for the very things of this earth
They testify of a Creator.
Alas, alas to no avail
No one cares to seek, to find, to know

So much beauty in life and still the word resounds in my head
The fool has said in his heart there is no God.

Awake to life, get to know the Creator, enjoy His creation

and the wonder of it all.

Unquenchable Thirst for Peace

My body is restless

My tongue caked and aching with

an unquenchable thirst

for Peace.

Until  every voice is heard

until our homes and communities

are compassionate

and loving

Until our sisters  and brothers decide that

it is not about competition

but our hearts uniting and expressing

in collaboration

Only then

only then

will my tongue be satisfied

and my body at rest.

My heart continues to look for peace, and I will do all i can with word and deed to promote peace.  I truly believe this energy can radiate forward.

Namaste.   #poetsforpeace

Texture Rich Restaurant – Tuesdays of Texture

Texture rich environment

Fills my curiosities

DELIGHH

As you can see, there was texture from top to bottom…everywhere you looked.  Because the restaurant was so full, and we were with guests, i couldn’t get a few of the elaborate fish tanks and a few other wicked cool textures….but you get the idea!

What’s in your world?    Show me!

You can also see more when you hop on over to Narami for more delightful textures.

Have a GRAND week.

Take Time Collaboration

Here is some of our contributions so far.  If you feel inspired, add it to the comments, and I will add you in!  Hope you are living poetry and enjoying the New Year!

TAKE TIME

take time to be grateful
take time for smiling

Take time
to be of the earth,
let it nourish you
soak its sweetness in your bones

Take time
To be of the water
Let it drop on your tongue
And quench your insatiable thirst

Take time
To gather around the fire
Let family and friends
Warm your heart and soul

Take time
to fill your lungs
breathe in mindfulness
Let out peace

Take time
To just be…

Melting Impressions

When I pause
and take my time
to pay attention
to those things presented
to my mind
I find
as I grow older
left out more often
in moments colder
fewer stand by me
shoulder to shoulder.
As numbness creeps
from fingertips
it seems at times as though
I’ve lost my grip.
Once precious memories
begin to slip.
Heartfelt refrains
of Auld Lanng Syne
each passing year a spirit
a little more or less refined
reaching, reaching for that
touch of the Divine
Glancing back at footsteps
melting in the snow
impressions not indelible,
their value I do not know
and I would have someone tell me,
One who took the time
to know
before I go
Despite my flaws
that I tried
not to lead or follow,
but stand alongside
I would like to believe
I will be missed
when it’s my time
for my last sigh.

Take Time
To close your eyes
And listen
To a distant wind

Take Time COLLABORATION – Happy New Year!

Happy New year beautiful people!

happy new year 2016

Well my friends, it is a New Year, and what a great way to begin our year with a collaboration.    For this one, we are using the anaphora –

                                                     Take Time

What I love about this open ended topic is that we can write endlessly from any point of our lives.  I can write a stream of consciousness without stopping.   No rules!       Add your lines in the comments, and I will put them together to make a group poem.  No deadline…write what makes your heart sing.   What ambitions, hopes, dreams, goals do you have for this bright beautiful year?   Will you make more memories with your loved ones?  savor time?   Take some chances or risks?

I CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR!!!

Here’s one of my contributions:

TAKE TIME

to be of the earth,

let it nourish you

soak its sweetness in your bones

Take time

To be of the water

Let it drop on your tongue

And quench your insatiable thirst

Take time

To gather around the fire

Let family and friends

Warm your heart and soul

Take time

to fill your lungs

breathe in mindfulness

Let out peace

Take time

To just be…

Namaste my friends,

and have a peaceful, joyous New Year.

Marie

Reflective Sunday

sunset park - springfield

This summer as I was traveling across America, we came across this park at sunset in Springfield, Illinois. A serendipitous surprise gift. ..a metaphor for my new life adventure.

Sunset Park twilight
My soul meditation dance
Peace song in color

I can’t wait to continue to unravel my Chautauqua little by little for more of life’s gifts

One Circle One Tribe

drum

Ba boom

Ba boom

Ba boom

The tribal beat reverberates through my body

From crown to root

Root to crown and to the heavens

I feel its healing sound

Truth radiating inside

Drummm drummm

Drummm drummm

All souls to center

Inhaling gifts

Exhaling all things

Which no longer serve

Experiencing only this clear present moment

Drummm drummm

Drummm drummm

No longer

is my heartbeat my own

One circle

One tribe

We are home

This is a tribute to Katie Jo and her drum circles for peace and unity.

May her dream of “One Circle, One Tribe” be realized…beginning at World Parliament of Religions.

And here is a link to show you the power of sound….Think of what can be changed with the power of one heart beat.  Namaste

p.s.  Katie Jo made my drum.  The picture doesn’t do it justice to the detail and work she put into it.

The Watermelon – I Remember

I remember last summer

You were sitting at the table

Like so many summers before

With skilled hand piercing

watermelon skin

And with a fluid motion

Began the ritualistic carving

I had seen you do this

Hundreds of times

But not through these eyes

These eyes savoring precious moments

These eyes watching an ordinary act

As if it were extraordinary

You cut it in circles

Then slicing them in half, forming tasty boats

And the knife followed the

Curve of the boat

To free melon from the rind

Then up, down, up, down,

making cubes

on the curved “u” stand

Lightly salted

And a knife stab of a savory chunk

Plopped it in your mouth

How I remember

I hadn’t eaten mine

For I was mesmerized

In the moment

Watching your face light with delight

At each piquant morsel

A sweet summer treat

I did and didn’t know

that would be the last time.

-This post serves as my “I Remember,” a collaboration with fellow writers, and as savoring a precious memory of my daddy.

Sometimes the beauty of knowing that someone is in their last days, you hold on to the how extraordinary ordinary moments are.”      Sounds like another collaboration of “extraordinary ordinary.”

Breadcrumbs

You left me breadcrumbs

to figure out your life

put together our sorrows

make sense of your strife

never knew why the door was to stay closed

and locked up so tight

you barely arose

and now you’re on the other side

We are left here wondering

filled with mystery

digging for knowledge of you

knowing no history

couldn’t you have stopped a moment to provide

a trail of crumbs on this side?

Wish there was a way to lift the veil

It seems I knock and knock,

but to no avail.

Poets inspire each other.  Sometimes it’s a poem…sometimes it’s a phrase…and sometimes it’s a word  like breadcrumbs.  Curiosity gets me to write.   Where do “breadcrumbs” lead you?   Thanks to Poetry Channel for the inspiration.
