One Billion Rising – World Parliament of Religions

In just a few days, I will dance with the organization called “Sheroes” to rise up against abuse of

girls and women of the world.  My purpose is aligned with the Sheroes mission: “The Purpose of SHEROES United is to come from the Heart. First, we embody our Core Values as “Super Role Models” in our families and communities and emulate the qualities of women who are an epic force for positive change. We are guides, teachers and mentors who walk our talk, each of us having already been on a powerful journey of healing and change.”

A few facts:

  • one million girls enter the sex trade each year
  • 4 million women and girls are trafficked annually
  • 1 in 3 women you love will be beaten or raped in their lifetime

There are sad, rising statistics, and we are the ones to “break the chain” of abuse.

Even positive prayers and emotions and rising above talk or music that  belittles or dehumanizes women is another way I can rise.  What can you do?

HERE’S the DANCE IF YOU WANT TO DANCE IT.  I believe in positive energy!

HERE’s The steps broken down!

The Watermelon – I Remember

I remember last summer

You were sitting at the table

Like so many summers before

With skilled hand piercing

watermelon skin

And with a fluid motion

Began the ritualistic carving

I had seen you do this

Hundreds of times

But not through these eyes

These eyes savoring precious moments

These eyes watching an ordinary act

As if it were extraordinary

You cut it in circles

Then slicing them in half, forming tasty boats

And the knife followed the

Curve of the boat

To free melon from the rind

Then up, down, up, down,

making cubes

on the curved “u” stand

Lightly salted

And a knife stab of a savory chunk

Plopped it in your mouth

How I remember

I hadn’t eaten mine

For I was mesmerized

In the moment

Watching your face light with delight

At each piquant morsel

A sweet summer treat

I did and didn’t know

that would be the last time.

-This post serves as my “I Remember,” a collaboration with fellow writers, and as savoring a precious memory of my daddy.

Sometimes the beauty of knowing that someone is in their last days, you hold on to the how extraordinary ordinary moments are.”      Sounds like another collaboration of “extraordinary ordinary.”

Breadcrumbs

You left me breadcrumbs

to figure out your life

put together our sorrows

make sense of your strife

never knew why the door was to stay closed

and locked up so tight

you barely arose

and now you’re on the other side

We are left here wondering

filled with mystery

digging for knowledge of you

knowing no history

couldn’t you have stopped a moment to provide

a trail of crumbs on this side?

Wish there was a way to lift the veil

It seems I knock and knock,

but to no avail.

Poets inspire each other.  Sometimes it’s a poem…sometimes it’s a phrase…and sometimes it’s a word  like breadcrumbs.  Curiosity gets me to write.   Where do “breadcrumbs” lead you?   Thanks to Poetry Channel for the inspiration.

I Remember… (COLLABORATION)

wpid-20151008_074349.jpg

Well my friends, you’ve asked, and here it is.  Our next Poem Collaboration will be using the anaphora:   I REMEMBER

What I love about this open ended topic is that we can write endlessly from any point of our lives.  I can write a stream of consciousness without stopping, any memory that comes to me or focus on a specific age.   No rules!       Add your lines in the comments, and I will put them together to make a gorup poem.  No deadline…write what makes your heart sing.   Did you have favorite toys?  Favorite activities as a child or a teen?  Do you have family memories you’d like to share about your parents, children or loved ones?  I can’t wait to hear them!

Mine:   I REMEMBER

I am Perfect in my Imperfection

image

“False notes are human. Why does everything have to be perfect? You know, perfection itself is imperfection.” Vladamir Horowitz

I found this beauty walking around a friend’s yard just “noticing” things…looking for things which brought me joy. When I first looked at it, I couldn’t believe how perfectly round this flower was!  While other flowers were fading into fall, this dared to continue blossoming…I thought that was the metaphor…but when I returned inside the house and looked at the picture closer, I noticed the bugs bites in some of the petals and some pieces fading away….And then I knew the real metaphor is that we all have things chipping at us or imperfections that show, but our entire being is magnificent just as God made us, and we keep shining our beauty and living our best.
CHALLENGE: Look for joy in things you see today. Embrace their imperfection….OR find something interesting in something imperfect. Tell me about it!
Namaste my friends.

An Unlikely Love

I remember the first day I met you…
I didn’t like your kind.
You were sweet.
I was cautious.
Didn’t want to love you or even like you.
But you had your charm… your way of working into a heart with subtlety.

And here I am…
grateful for your patience your confidence
that I would fall in love with you…
I did.
Fifteen years later after finding you on the playground, I not only managed to love you,
but I learned to love your kind…
cats.
My dearest Recess…
you have given me hope for the world.

And I will continue in my
search for the gold.

Magical Miracle

image

How difficult that must have been for you to reach from the top of the sunflower all the way to the chair. So unlikely an event and yet here is your thread of life, your tight rope, that is proof that you took the leap, that you trusted, and you made it. If only all of us were as faithful and trusting as a spider.

I’m totally in awe how that spider made such an incredible distance with not much wind.  What a miracle I witnessed today…I’m thinking angels are speaking to me.

(Also, notice the dilemma of my once majestic sunflowers.)

Harvest moon verse

Love this…
Wonderful rhythm like a love ballad. Brilliant!

K.L.Laettner author(InfiniteZip)'s avatarPeace, Love and Patchouli

Silhouettes of trees stand guard
Over dreams of nights lit by
A thousand fireflies rising
Crackling like a first fall fire
And the moon perched,
watching,
The scenes of acts played out
Of visions created in sleepless minds
And the body that often feels so tired
Moving through to touch
The earth
Gathering ashes to form
Castles of nothing.
I watch you come to me
Sweet moon on high you cast aside
Your robes of clouds
Naked for my eyes,
My thoughts to fantasize
Of similar nights
And words spoken
And those left unsaid.
I sleep beneath your eternal gaze
And wake to find the lavender pink
Filtered through a haze
Of this morning as she wakes
And I miss you in this moment
Yet know you shall return to find me waiting,
Spinning endless verse
On the beauty and gifts you bestow
To my heart and eternal soul
Left…

A Love Story – Aubade and Helianthus

Helianthus was but a shy seedling when they met

folded up and shut in

But Aubade was tender, patient and caressing

encouraging her to open up

And take in loving energy

She trusted.

He kissed her full on

and showed her loving ways

Her smitten heart fluttered

and soon she followed him

day in….day out

Emboldened to seek him in ways never sought before

for love’s intensity

Not a moment went by when she didn’t seek his light.

Never had she felt so much like a woman.

Standing tall

standing open

Hearts entwined

Souls entwined

The truth of the moment

explored and expressed

She whispered to him,

“I could stay forever in your arms

keep the world away and

your love in.”

They frolicked and danced

all their early days of summer

soaking their love in

In the Autumn of their lives,

Helianthus felt the distance of her lover

she saw him less and less as he sought

the promise of western skies

and new loves.

Then, only one was left in love.

When Aubade left,

her face continued ever seeking

until she could reach his light no more

her knees crumbled

and she fell face down to the ground

h e a r  t     b r o k e n.

Her tombstone read

“She had given all.”

And the earth wept

for her goodness was gone.

A love story of my fabulous sunflowers withering away because their sun has left them.
