New Poetry Collaboration – SOULMATES -Join in!

soulmates-1

A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we’re safe in our own paradise.
~Richard Bach (Bridge Across Forever)

Even the word soulmates inspires magical thinking.  Search your soul.  How does that other person touch your spirit, inspire you, make you want to be more than you ever thought you could be?

Our last collaboration was a HUGE success!   See it HERE.  There is no wrong way.  As a matter of fact, YOUR style is encouraged and brings interest and new ways of thinking.  Besides, they’re fun to write and challenge us to stretch our spirits.

So here’s how to participate:.  Just as before, you can add your contribution in the comment section of this poem,  & I will place them in the order they come. I will put your name (contributor)  at the end of the piece in the same color as your contribution and the names will be in the same order as well.   In a week, I will post the collaboration as a whole.  (But we can always keep adding on!)  Happy writing!

ROBIN – is starting us off!

The Elusive Bird of Paradise

Do you know someone
cool,
calm,
collected?
Oh, make sure he/she is not aloof.

The bird may be shy,
awkward,
nervous,
inside and out.
Finding himself,
Discovering herself.

Worth waiting for such a rare bird.

Keep as a friend,
observe,
wait,
hope.

The bird may find
his or her wings,
spread her love,
give his adoration
to
You.

I write with hot toes
what the wind worried into sand
words once hid by rocks

startled to reappear
air plays in long forgotten sound
feathered with kind eyes

feet know compassion
teach in freedom understand
their own way speak life

and I listen with heart
time unbends with each shored wave
warm smiles like flowers

uncurl ears unafraid
touched by sun that never burns
but forever lives

like a love that tracks
through shadows to find its mate
never giving up

infinite of reach
to each whispered ululate
unbound this peace

we step through to find
blessed this gift awake in time
life become soul mate

Only you . . .

Know the deepest recesses of my heart,

The secrets that I keep,

Or the thoughts that I think.

* * *

Only you . . .

Can cause my breath to catch,

With a single word,

Or the briefest glance.

* * *

Only you . . .

Make me feel safe in the dark of the night,

When the storm rages,

Or when trouble is at hand.

* * *

Only you . . .

Bring out the best in me,

Even when I’m at my worst,

I strive to be better.

* * *

Only you . . .

Encourage me to pursue my dreams,

To be the person I want to be,

The person that you love.

* * *

Only you . . .

Love me no matter what my faults are,

In good times and in bad times,

In sickness and in health.

* * *

If it is true that everyone has one soul mate,

One person who is their perfect match,

Then I am certain that I have found mine . . .

* * *

Only YOU.

Thou swept me off my feet ! Haven’t thou?

I found my soulmate in thee, Aren’t thou?

“Ay love ! ” Floored I was with thy charm, smitten by sheer simplicity,
Thou took my breath away, respected my inhibitions and individuality;
Winged cupid played his part well, musical notes evolved into symphony,
“Ay me!” my soul and spirit mingled with thine in perfect harmony;

We met, we spoke, we doth lied while exchanging notes,
we tied the nuptial knot, made promises,took eternal vows;
we lived, we moved, I suggested,thou accepted, painted rainbows,
Showered faith and trust, kept a tight leash on fears and sorrows;

Together we nurtured a dream, holding hands never to part,
Together we faced struggles, failures,triumphs,got up again to restart;
Together we weaved carefully the fabric of emotions and learnt the art;
Together we sailed, grew as inseparables, were “soul mates”, never depart;

Memories so sweet, happiness unleashed, joy no dearth,
Our home is an abode of peace, Ah ! Heaven itself on earth;
O, my soulmate, hold my hand in journey between life and death,
Can’t live without thee, thou need to be there till my parting breath,

Lover’s soul never sinks ! Don’t thou know?
Lover’s soul loves pure spirit ! Isn’t so ?

I DID IT! – Camp NaNoWriMo

2014-Winner-Vertical-Banner

There’s something to finishing a goal.I have never done anything like this before, so I have to CHEER  WOO WOO!

Thanks to Rhonda Blackhurst, I joined the July NaNoWriMo.  Our Writing Cabin had motivated AND motivating writers!  It was awesome to be able to put in my own word count goals and have a team to support me in attaining that goal.  Who would have thought having a word count would help out so much?  It made me put my seat in the chair and get those words down!  (I didn’t want to let my team down.) The words I write at that moment may not be the best words or the prettiest sounding words, but they are on the paper.  As the wonderful Bird by Bird author, Anne Lamott,  calls them Crappy First Drafts (but she uses a different word, same principal). The gist she says is that you have permission to write long, incoherent, hideous, self-indulgent, boring sentences.  It’s okay, you’re getting the words down.  You don’t know what you know or don’t know until you know it.    (That’s a hairy sentence!)

Writing helps me know what I know if  I let go of perfection or it having to look or sound a certain way. Essentially, I got out of my own way, and let the words fly. Now comes the beauty of crafting the words and honing them in on the juiciness of the story.

The other grand part?  It allowed me to make so many connections and figure things out of what I want to write and even some of the hows, which I didn’t have before.  There was some element of knowing my path a little better.  Had I just stared at the screen or better yet, avoid the screen with senseless other “have to” activities in the name of being busy, I would not have gotten more clarity.

If you ever get a chance, you have to read Bird by Bird.  She’ll not only make you feel like you’re a person, but you’ll also know that you’re a writer, faults and all.  Here’s to some wonderful cabin mates and fellow bloggers.  Check them out!

A Poem with a Taste Challenge

texas

Okay my friends…I was inspired by a poem I read yesterday that involved the tastes of a place.   And food brings about joyous memories with friends and families and those special people we love.  So, here’s my challenge:

Write a poem about the tastes of YOUR place…and then maybe include one of your favorite recipes…it can be from that place your wrote about, or one of your favorite recipes…I think it would be really cool to gather recipes of places from around the world….Then I can wake up and say things like, I’d like to travel to Austrailia today or Georgia, and pull a recipe out and be reminded of you!   Besides, my recipe box needs new tastes!   ENJOY!

JUST LEAVE YOUR LINK IN  YOUR COMMENTS SO WE CAN FIND YOU AND PING BACK HERE.  WE WON’T MAKE ONE LONG POEM ON THIS…IT WILL JUST BE LIKE A COOKBOOK AROUND THE WORLD.

Though I live in Idaho now…my strongest memories of taste are from Texas…

So, here’s my poem:

Random thoughts on the Flavors of Texas

I’ll tell you a

half dozen things about

the flavors of Texas.

The best bar-b-que ribs

and brisket you

ever did taste

because it’s grilled

in a brick fire pit

with Mesquite wood

and a homemade with a

vinegar/beer concoction.

Even Bill Miller’s

on a Texas corner can make

it almost like that.

Unlike Boise’s Dickey’s,

whose food tastes

cold and processed…

The sauce isn’t too bad though.

And Ahhhh…

the Mexican food

so close to the border

has its advantages.

Those Mexican mamas making masa.

Enchiladas made from real corn tortillas,

with joy from hands which love

to dish deliciousness and

make your tongue tingle with taste.

Now that’s Texas

a true taste corner.

And did I tell you

about Big Red,

bubble gum soda,

the flavor of childhood

and firemen’s picnics…

and Blue Bonnet icecream…

You can’t buy that here in Idaho,

a state

so lackluster in flavor.

Is it because the

borders are so far way?

or is it because I miss

The taste of home…

Even Idaho potatoes

tasted better in Texas

grilled with my daddy’s hand

for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Is it because my daddy

is a good cook?

Or do the potatoes

gain flavor

being trucked

all that distance?

I’m not dissing

on Idaho.

Perhaps, I’m just missing

the Flavors   of   Texas

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm……….

HERE’s A LINK to KING RANCH CHICKEN so you can have your own taste of Texas.

This recipe goes with a great TASTES OF HOME CHALLENGE – You can either

share your favorite HOME recipe or write about your Tastes of Home.

Cook Time:   30 minutes

Ingredients:

2 T   butter

2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced

¼-1/2 tsp red pepper flakes or ground

½ tsp of cumin

 This is a mixture of two of my favorite recipes.  It’s a family favorite!

                (if I make it for the kids, I leave out the bell peppers.)

Filling:

1 T  butter

1 small yellow onion, peeled and chopped

Optional:  ½ medium green bell pepper, cored, seeded and chopped   &

6 oz mushrooms (first time didn’t use green peppers or mushrooms…..).

  1. 10 ¾ oz of Cream of Mushroom Soup

  1.  10 ¾ oz of Cream of Chicken Soup

  1.  10  oz can of diced tomatoes

  1.  Small can    of green chilies diced

½ cup chicken broth

1 C   of   sour cream

Tortillas:

Olive oil for frying

8 corn tortillas

Chicken and other Layers:

3 C diced cooked chicken

2 C  medium cheddar cheese  shredded   (tastes good with sharp too)  (try other cheeses!)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 .  Coat 11 by 7 by 2” baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.  Sauce:  Melt butter in medium heavy skillet over moderate heat.  Add garlic, red pepper and cumin.  Stir fry 1 minute.  Option 1:  you can blend flour, add broth and milk, and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth (3 minutes).   Stir in sour cream, salt and black pepper to taste.  Set aside.   Or Option #2:  Stir together, cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, sour cream.  Set aside.

Filling:  melt butter in large heavy skillet, over moderate heat.  Add onion, green pepper, green chilies, mushrooms, and tomatoes.  Stir often, until vegetables soften and flavors meld – 10 to 15 minutes.

Tortillas:  Pour oil to depth of ½ inch in small heavy skillet.  Set over moderate heat.  When ready, dip tortillas, one by one until just long enough to soften.  Drain on paper towels.

To layer:  arrange half of tortillas in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.  Then, build up the layers:  ½ the chicken and 1/2 sauce and ½ the cheese.  Then, another layer of tortillas, the other ½ of the chicken and remaining sauce and cheese.

Optional:  you can add black olives

Let’s Camp at NaNoWriMo!

camp-nano-2014

Usually November is National Novel Writing Month, wherein the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel. However, the goals for the Camp for July are more loose goals and you can set your own word count towards any genre of writing, fiction, nonfiction memoir, poetry, even blogging. Another thing that is awesome about this kind of camp is that you have cabin mates which gives me incentive to meet my goal and adds an element of accountability. Won’t it be fun to watch the word count rise?

We start on Tuesday, July 1st!

Who’s game? Who wants to write, write, write?
Pick me!
Let me know if you’d like to join our cabin. We still have room for about six or seven more cabin mates.
Happy writing!

“My Soul is Summoned”

soul

My Soul is Summoned

My soul is summoned,
on barren lands,
in the middle of nowhere,
alone, it stands,
free.

My Soul Summons me to Peaceful surrounds, to Light without sounds, to Love

without Boundaries.

My soul is summoned to answer calls
Reverberating through subtle halls
Where mankind has dwelt for far too long
Deciding what is right and wrong.
Step outside, there is no quiz
Eternity just simply is.

My soul is summoned on wings to fly

High above an earthly sky

To take flight to a new world

A place with love, peace and flags unfurled

What will be there when you arrive?

Not for you to know, only to thrive.

Trust yourself and be off to explore

It is for you to love and nothing more.

 My soul summon me through fire rise
cast ash greyed mystery disguised
walk no need to hide the eyes
what calls to see but cross the water
these pawmarks, mine,
and most of all, for this to know
that I am she, am this, forever soul

Poetry Collaboration – “My Soul is Summoned”

Image

A most lovely poet at Forgotten Meadows has started a collaborative poem trend, two of my favorite things, poetry and collaboration!  So, in honor of her, and to see what juicy words come, here is my starting phrase:   “My Soul is Summoned…”

Isn’t it a curious phrase?  What is your soul summoned to do?

It will be open until next Friday, the 27th, and I will make sure your contribution is posted in the order it comes.  I look forward to seeing your “magic.”  And hearing what you are summoned to do.

Happy poeting…(yes, poetry is an action!)
