I DID IT! – Camp NaNoWriMo

2014-Winner-Vertical-Banner

There’s something to finishing a goal.I have never done anything like this before, so I have to CHEER  WOO WOO!

Thanks to Rhonda Blackhurst, I joined the July NaNoWriMo.  Our Writing Cabin had motivated AND motivating writers!  It was awesome to be able to put in my own word count goals and have a team to support me in attaining that goal.  Who would have thought having a word count would help out so much?  It made me put my seat in the chair and get those words down!  (I didn’t want to let my team down.) The words I write at that moment may not be the best words or the prettiest sounding words, but they are on the paper.  As the wonderful Bird by Bird author, Anne Lamott,  calls them Crappy First Drafts (but she uses a different word, same principal). The gist she says is that you have permission to write long, incoherent, hideous, self-indulgent, boring sentences.  It’s okay, you’re getting the words down.  You don’t know what you know or don’t know until you know it.    (That’s a hairy sentence!)

Writing helps me know what I know if  I let go of perfection or it having to look or sound a certain way. Essentially, I got out of my own way, and let the words fly. Now comes the beauty of crafting the words and honing them in on the juiciness of the story.

The other grand part?  It allowed me to make so many connections and figure things out of what I want to write and even some of the hows, which I didn’t have before.  There was some element of knowing my path a little better.  Had I just stared at the screen or better yet, avoid the screen with senseless other “have to” activities in the name of being busy, I would not have gotten more clarity.

If you ever get a chance, you have to read Bird by Bird.  She’ll not only make you feel like you’re a person, but you’ll also know that you’re a writer, faults and all.  Here’s to some wonderful cabin mates and fellow bloggers.  Check them out!

To Live Poetry – this week

marigolds spider web dew drops

To Live Poetry

See

Colors of blue, purple, green

And colors in between

Cerulean, Magenta, Seafoam

orange flower bursts

jeweled drops

on spider webs

To taste

Sweet creaminess of icecream

Spicy salsa chili

Contrast them

on my tongue

Hear

Drumbeats that start from

My heart and radiate

To my fingertips

Lilting music of your poetry

Touch

The pointiness of grass

Grooves in newly carved wood

A lover’s lips

On mine

Smell

Delicate flowers

New babies

The fragrance

Of ones I love.

These are just a few

Ways I’ve lived

Poetry this week.

I Live Poetry- Collaboration

Ribbet collage-I live poetry

I’m Sick Without You

I live poetry like a broken heart
that walks a lost road through shattered dark
that shrinks from receiving any more harm
a creature of silent howls
that sits and cuts its arms

I live poetry like a broken dream
fractured in places hid deep to be seen
collecting my parts from a rubbish heap
pieces of me like a memory
lay round waiting by my feet

I live poetry like a broken mind
long twisted throat around it signed
for a freedom that no words could make
silently gnawing myself to flee
this rope in old strands she frays me

I live poetry like a severed tongue
incapable faltering screaming head throng
vomiting to cease I run on hands and knees
to reach that one place
where all make sense to me

There I live poetry like I’ve come home
I cross that line to find my own
it’s where I belong
with you mother nature
at the heart of the rose

To live Poetry

Inhale the crisp brilliant air

filled with all things fiery and impassioned,

Nature, art, song, words

Pregnant with the seeds of

Love, peace,

possibility and hope

Inspiration oxygen

permeating my blood

and winding its way

through my physical body

deepening into the tissues

Of my soul.

Write it!

This is the beginning of a collaboration poem.  How do you LIVE POETRY?  It’s a quote I wrote that I want to live by. You can see the original post from July 9th, HERE.

Here are the contributing artists so far.  Take as much time as you need and link back to me.  I’d love to know how poets live!

Word Warrior Wednesday!

Oh my dear friends,

You, who are full of the most delicious words, who have the gift of story and poetry, who use these delectable creatures every day.  Give me your words!   I promise to use them wisely.  The groups I work with LOVE them!   boondoggle, bamboozle, thingamajigger, whatchamacallit, swagger, bouffant…which reminds me.  Below is a video which will trigger fun sound words right out of you!  (G rated- You need this version because the teens’ faces say it all!)

  – Bulbous Bouffant.

I use these words for my work in Poetry Therapy, a medium which assists others in healing.

You can read more about the “WHY”  here.

Please dear friends, give me YOUR words!   This will be fun.  ~ Marie  :0)

p.s.  The older the words, the better.  Some of my group members used to use these words all the time!  Makes for fascinating stories.

GIVE ME YOUR WORDS! – Word donations for Word Warrior Wednesday

untitledNo, I haven’t gone to the other side.  I love my Wordless Wednesdays, and I have enough pictures to fill many Wednesdays to come…especially nature and art.  I’ve been truly blessed this summer.

However, along with it, I’d like to start a new tradition.  GIVE ME YOUR WORDS!

In Poetry Therapy, I teach using Poetry as a medium to assist others in healing.  They don’t have to write poetry…just enjoy it.  Writing is part of the therapy, but students only need to be able to write a postcard or a letter to feel the magical healing powers.

There is an exercise we do that has really cool words we might not hear everyday.  We might not have heard them in a really long time.  Or, we might have heard them from our parents, grandparents, neighbors, or crazy aunts.   Words like:  bamboozle, gargantuan, whackadoodle.

I NEED THEM for exercises for my clients…HERE’s YOUR CHANCE!

I can’t wait to see what you come up with.  PLEASE?  Even if it’s only one word.

a most gracious thank you,

~ Marie  :0)

To LIVE Poetry – A Writing Challenge and a Poem

This weekend I wrote a quote (rewritten below).  My intention was to create

a more purposeful life.  If I LIVED poetry, what would that look like?

To live Poetry

Inhale the crisp brilliant air

filled with all things fiery and impassioned,

Nature, art, song, words

Pregnant with the seeds of

Love, peace,

possibility and hope

Inspiration oxygen

permeating my blood

and winding its way

through my physical body

deepening into the tissues

Of my soul.

Write it!

WRITING CHALLENGE:  Now, it’s your turn!  What would it look like if  YOU LIVED POETRY?

It can be a poem or an essay, a quote, or a few words are two.  How does it inspire you to look at life differently?

Just as in the past, I will post what you write and link it back to you.  I can’t wait to hear what you say, because I know your words are magic.  Don’t forget to tell your friends!

Let’s Camp at NaNoWriMo!

camp-nano-2014

Usually November is National Novel Writing Month, wherein the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel. However, the goals for the Camp for July are more loose goals and you can set your own word count towards any genre of writing, fiction, nonfiction memoir, poetry, even blogging. Another thing that is awesome about this kind of camp is that you have cabin mates which gives me incentive to meet my goal and adds an element of accountability. Won’t it be fun to watch the word count rise?

We start on Tuesday, July 1st!

Who’s game? Who wants to write, write, write?
Pick me!
Let me know if you’d like to join our cabin. We still have room for about six or seven more cabin mates.
Happy writing!

“My Soul is Summoned”

soul

My Soul is Summoned

My soul is summoned,
on barren lands,
in the middle of nowhere,
alone, it stands,
free.

My Soul Summons me to Peaceful surrounds, to Light without sounds, to Love

without Boundaries.

My soul is summoned to answer calls
Reverberating through subtle halls
Where mankind has dwelt for far too long
Deciding what is right and wrong.
Step outside, there is no quiz
Eternity just simply is.

My soul is summoned on wings to fly

High above an earthly sky

To take flight to a new world

A place with love, peace and flags unfurled

What will be there when you arrive?

Not for you to know, only to thrive.

Trust yourself and be off to explore

It is for you to love and nothing more.

My soul summon me through fire rise
cast ash greyed mystery disguised
walk no need to hide the eyes
what calls to see but cross the water
these pawmarks, mine,
and most of all, for this to know
that I am she, am this, forever soul
